Rooney to Chelsea?

His EURO 2004 performances showed promise but he's nowhere near the same class as the likes of Messi and Ronaldo and never has been

I reckon he's got 2-3 more seasons in him..he just does not seem fit/athletic enough and his touch has deteriorated dramatically over past 2-3 years

Compare Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo at Man U and for their countries. At Man U, Rooney 197 goals/401 apps, Ronaldo 118/292 and for their countries Rooney 36/83 and Ronaldo 40/105, figures say that Rooney is just as effective if not more so than Ronaldo but Rooney is not as flashy. Rooney has lost that electric pace he had as a 17 year old but his appetite for the game, his reading of the game, his contribution all over the field point to him being a world class player. I also see Rooney moving back a little even into midfield as he gets older as his vision and passing are superb. It was Rooney who picked out Van Persie with a 30-40 yard pass enabling RVP to score with that volley.

141 goals in 278 appearances says differently. Thats what clubs pay big money for.

Well yes but who werer those goals scored against? I'd love to find a breakdown of his record against the very top opposition in the PL, or has he scored 140 goals against relegation fodder? :) Maybe I'll try to find out

But who were the goals scored against...the ebst or the dregs?

I agree that midfield may be where he ends up but for me his passing, vision etc are way behind the lieks of Iniesta, Xavi etc..mind you most players are :)

Personally I give credit for RVP's goal to RVP, most players could hit a 40-40 yeard pass towards a forward but few couldl do what RVP did
