Back in 2004 I was encouraged by Caz et al to pen this tribute to you - achieved with help from your mum and dad

Since 1996 you have been here for all of us - big kids too - giving generously of yourself both on and off the 'Park.

In my mind you were an example of unselfishness for all things Port Vale that put to shame some of our previous custodians.

Since 1996 it's been a long row for you (Boomer that is) both personally and for us that it wouldn't surprise me to hear you were contemplating retirement from mascot duties.

Take care Bon Ami

Absolutely spot on.

I must admit i wouldnt fancy your role as boomer, but maybe someone would step up to share the duties to give you somewhat of a break?

Over the last few years I've had several personal dealings with Boomer and his Dad (Gavin & Errol) at fundraising, charity and wedding events. The effort and dedication the pair of them put into the respective roles is nothing short of remarkable. They have become not only valuable icons for the club, but for the entire city. Having spoken to Gavin, it's clear the role is very rewarding seeing the reaction of his audience, but very demanding in terms of time expectancy. I have nothing but respect for what Gavin does for the club and local charity work, and don't forget the pair of them have had their own battles with health issues. However, it did surprise me that Gavin chose the statement he did on an outlet like Facebook. The choice of words in his statement was always going to start rumours of problems within the club. Was it meant that way, only Gavin knows. Whatever the reason or the outcome, Boomer will always be a legend in the Port Vale history books.

I bet that he's paid **** all but if it keeps Lodey in a job......

All the kids love BOOMER and if true this is a very sad move by people at the club,we cant get sponsors,Lodey is still there yet we are supposedly getting rid of one of the things that makes us a family club and people smile.

A Save Boomer petition has just started on Facebook.Boomer is one of the few positive things to come out of Vale Park over the past 10 years and he has to stay!!!The lad has done wonders and given Vale brilliant PR through his charity work too.

Also when you think of how ill he has been at times over the years and is still doing it this is disgraceful,a major **** up by whoever has decided this.

I think boomers great, but maybe, just maybe the club are trying to assess if there are things that they can upgrade and do better in time for the launch of the Lorne street family stand? I sincerely hope that boomer does indeed stay and plays a great part in the new family area.

There is going to be no new family stand in the Lorne street as the police bill of 46k has tipped us over the edge

Sensible decision in the short term, maybe a sponsor can be found?

Can you please explain how it is sensible ? 160k to finish the stand. If smurf was in it for the long run he would spend the 160k as the family stand is for the next generation of vale fan, the 500 or so fans it could tempt into being vale fans will no doubt end up down the road or playing FIFA.

Speculate to accumulate smurf!!!!

Does it matter if it is done by Xmas or next season? I assume Smurf has an investment budget for the season and does not just keep spending on demand, but keeps an eye on cash flow, etc.

A post earlier you said 46k tipped us over the edge so how could 160k be possibly afforded.
