The Next England Manager

If playing for your country at a major tournament isn't motivation enough I would not pick him.

Perhaps motivation was the wrong word to use. But Roy Hodgson doesn't and didn't exactly inspire, does he? If it's one thing Redknapp has always been able to do it's get the most out of a lot of his players, and he does that by getting them actually enjoying playing for him.

I tend to agree..he does seem to create an atmos. where they are happy and feel free to play their game

So it's Big Sam. I'll quite happily nibble on his big ball sack if the man gets our players performing as they do for their respective clubs.

I was against this appointment originally but he'll at least have a structure to his side, something Hodgson never really did, and won't sit on his arse looking gormless like Hodgson when things are going **** up!

Got to say I'm disappointed. Have never particularly rated or liked Allardyce, don't enjoy watching his teams plus he's got a massive opinion of himself & is right big-headed (...both metaphorically and literally!)

The fact that the choice boiled down to Allardyce or Bruce shows the dearth of decent options, or rather the ineptitude of the FA yet again (just how has this Dan Ashworth got to such a high-level role, where he dictates the future of England football, seemingly just because he worked with Hodgson at the mighty West Brom?)

My choice, albeit maybe only for 2 years as he's now 69, would have been Guus Hiddink with an ex-player learning under him. I also really wanted Hiddink to get it in 2006, when the clowns made the joke appointment of McClaren instead........is this about to be deja-vu?! (instead of the wally with a brolly it's a Mike Bassett sequel?!)

Still, I suppose at least Allardyce will be passionate about the job and may provide some comedy moments - I bet they've given him a 4 or even 6 year contract!

Not enthralled by his appointment, average to decent premiership manager given arguably the biggest football managerial position in the world. We struggle to attract quality managers for this position. Another failure coming on IMO but good luck big Sam, hope I'm wrong.

"Sam has never been given an opportunity at a top, top club to win a title but has done a terrific job wherever he has been. He will get the best out of the tools at his disposal - that's the most important thing."

Former Norwich, Blackburn, Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton on BBC

Thats a hell of a quote.

Not my preferred choice but we've not chosen his 'type' before so worth a go...from his reputation he'll not take any **** from the players, he'll get them organised, he'll pick who he wants, he'll change things if its not working and I've just heard from Nostradamus that it will either work or it won't.

Kevin Davies to come out of retirement??

Got mixed opinions about it. It's certainly not the worst appointment but is it the best? If we were going down the English route then big Sam is better than bruce and Co in my opinion. But surely pardrew or eddie howe should have been considered both who finished above Sunderland last year and pardrew a cup final. I can understand why howe didn't get it maybe he'll be the next england manager after more experience at the top level. Big sam certainly will not be afraid to make a decision to take players on form and I think he will get much more from the players than roy. I don't really care how we play as long as we win but I think the football we play will be to use our players so not necessarily long ball. And I think some of it is a myth that he only plays long ball. And after all leicester played a type of long ball so if it works why not.

Big sam > roy
