I don't understand such a strong emotional reaction to this competition? Ok - I get you might resent the Prem's intrusion into EFL affairs...but it's always going to be like that. I'm not keen on that myself - but the trade-off, I believe, was increased prize money? Of which Vale have helped themselves to a few chunks! The fact that we had to face Prem clubs' U21 / U23 doesn't really make much difference, in the long run - I think I'm right in saying none of those got to a Final, yet? And not many to the Semis? So, basically, after the round of 32 the end results are going to be as if the Prem teams hadn't been in the competition.

it's also been good for assessing squad players, and giving game time for players to get up to fitness, and minutes for those recovering from injury - so it's really win/win and not a whole lot against it...but I don't think it's me veing the 4kwit, here? I'm for any competition that  allows my team to benefit financially - I just wish we had a better recent record in the other 2 major Cups!

I see only tickets available in Lorne Street I think maybe change it too only available in hamil I'd make that the home end in this trophy moving forwards.

Two 0-0s in world Cup today only watched last 30 mins of Denmark Tunisia quite boring really and last 20 of Poland Mexico that wasn't very good either .
So Vale could be a great option tomoz evening as World Cup apart from England emoji636.png nor really seen any side where you think they are good .
All to mundane to me

No respect to those who go. Don't normalise a competition with U21 teams included.

It's a game of football nothing more fair enough don't turn up if playing teams youth sides etc u23 u21 etc but it's Barnsley so like a normal game .
Last game I went in this comp was v Stoke and we got new toilets
Those who go tonight fair play to them after all we haven't got a home game till 17th Dec after tonight how's the club supposed survive .
The FA cup exit was for me the lowest game of the season you want attract more people to the ground you gotta win fa Cup ties we didn't hence making tonight must win as we will need the 20 k for sure

Quite frankly nobody is bothered if we have your respect. 👍🏻

I understand the dislike some fans have for this competition.  My own simplistic view is that it’s little more than a tinpot trophy, used by League clubs almost as reserve fixtures, at least until the latter rounds by which time most of the U21 teams have been smashed a few times and are out of the picture.  If we take that into the league pyramid scenario, I’d suggest these U21 teams wouldn’t survive high up in the pyramid with promotion/relegation against full strength teams of experienced grown men, and I can’t see the big glamour boys wanting their expensive young talent ploughing around some lower league pitches week in week out in the middle of our winter.  We would have to do away with promotion and relegation, which isn’t going to happen.

Those who say

As usual, a complete misquote. I said I wouldn't risk my life, and making two young children orphans in that situation.

As for those who say "what about the prize money" it's a false economy. Costs have increased drastically to host these games since 10 years ago with increased squad sizes, the increase wages of matchday staff and general running costs of midweek fixtures. On the other side of things income has gone down real terms by the much reduced crowds (rightly so) and the fact that ticket prices haven't moved for this type of fixture.

The club have to put on a game, pay appearance fees, electricity costs, employee wages.

What sends a bigger message, no fans turning up for any of the games or a big discrepancy in the attendances of games against u21 teams to those against proper teams?

Fans often find ways of putting money into the club, this is another way, and you see a game of football in return.

I have no respect for fans who disrespect fans for supporting their club. Nobody is forcing you to go but 20k for the winner plus gate money is not to be sniffed at.

I would say the gate will cover those fees. If we win it will be a handy 20k in the bank to go with the 60k we have already accumulated. I get that some people don't like the competition but most U21 teams are gone in the group stages and if we go all the way we are unlikely to play another one. If nothing else it gives game time to some of the squad players who haven't been involved and it gives opportunities for some of our own U21 players.
