Match Thread: FLT R32 Port Vale v Barnsley

That first half display by Politic, Benning and Holden was top draw. How many times did Benning and Politic link up? We looked very dangerous down the left.

Massey and Mipo were the complete opposite. Awful.

Good break for the players now. The pitch looks like it needs a rest now. It was like one of ours from 20 years ago.

First half superb every player shone especially Benning Politic and Worrall Pett Hall Smith
Second half Garrity going off and Conlon coming on weakened us (how many touches did Conlon have second half is his strip dirty I doubt it he was contributing zilch ).
Uncomfortable finish due to Conlon leaving his midfield role to allow Edwards a free shot which went in .
Mind you we should have been 4 up by then as DP and DW should have had a brace each but not to be the 2 will do the second goal a magnificent team goal the first after great through ball by Holden finished superbly by Politic who was for me superb along with Benning and Worrall first half and even second half was doing his utmost get in them areas finish them off .
20k better off .
Man of the match for me
Mal Benning .
I feel a deserved win .

Anyone who cannot see the value of Dennis Politic doesn't understand football and Ben Garrity and Wilson so pivotal to whether Vale win games or not .
Holden a big plus for me tonight showed he as it in him open the door to create .

Massey and Odubeko gave a tour de force in not being arsed.

All our old stagers put in a shift.  Should be an example to them. Just raked in 20k for the club and the round of 16.

Milo and Massey were an embarrassment... four yards off any player when Barnsley were in possession. Strolling around like they didn't care.  Darrell needs to play that game back to them.  Totally unacceptable at any level.  Where does that lack of motivation come from?  Needs nipping in the bud NOW.

Sorry I don’t really see what Massey offers

Statistically it's inevitable that some signings just don't work out, and that's the case at all levels of football.

Massey is looking like this season's Michael Hussey...on the face of it has all the experience necessary but somehow it doesn't work out. I think it's fair to say though that Hussey never put in a performance like Massey's tonight. And Mipo, young & raw or not, simply has to look more interested when given a chance to shine like tonight.

The good news is, we've got options and I'm sure their showings tonight won't have gone unnoticed by DC/AC.

Good win, but yet again, 1 shot faced on target, 1 goal.

It bewilders me that Vale fans on social media were discussing a transfer fee for Stevens if Oxford recall him to sell. We can and should do better. I'm positive their fans mentioned the inability to deal with shots from outside the box when we signed him, it's not a poor spell or a new thing.

If it was a small fee then why not?  If they want stupid money then we should look elsewhere, I certainly wouldn’t be held to ransom but he’s OK if the price is right.  For me our absolute priority should be at the opposite end of the pitch.  We’re going into the second half of the season with only 2 strikers, one of whom is notoriously fragile and coming back from injury.  OK, if Stevens is recalled then we do need another keeper if only to cover Stone.

In his defence, I don’t think he can do anything with that shot tonight, having just heard AC’s interview he’s saying it took a deflection, either way it was a wicked dip on the ball.  I also think the other long shots resulting in goals we should lay more of the blame on the outfield players for not closing down rather than the keeper(s) for not saving what were essentially free shots at goal by players with all the time in the world to pick their spot.  That said, I agree with you that we can do “better”, but “better” has to be available for the right deal and we saw in the summer rumoured names didn’t materialise for one reason or another.

Christ I’ve just seen the pitch on the highlights, it’s like a ploughed field. Bring the sand back! Thank god we’ve got a bit of time away from playing on it.

Where did you find the highlights Powerline?  I've been looking online everywhere and can't find any? Wouldn't mind seeing he second goal that people said was quality.
