Maybe though last couple we’ve had from there Donnelly and Mighten neither of them have been repped by Sproson. It makes sense to have someone like him as backup as opposed to an academy loan for example as at least he has experience and we can take our time with that academy keeper we offered terms to.

He wasn't a regular starter for Barrow last season so I'd imagine league 1 would be a surprise move. He'll be announced somewhere today I guess. He was unplayable in a game against Luton (?). His career seems to have stuttered since. He has a lot of talent and should have played higher than league 2. He's not really achieved anything for all that talent, so his next contract is his last chance for a promotion.

Sounds to me that he turned down the Barrow contract because he’s got an offer to play in League One

I think alongside Smith he'd do a job. Never seen him have a bad game the times I've seen him (maybe 10-12 times), and has an eye for goal on set-pieces: I've always thought he could easily make the step up (if he wants to of course). 31/32 is no age for a CB really. As for returning quickly to NL with Chesterfield once Stockport went up: Chessie pay silly wages !!

Maybe but I can't see anything in his record from last season to see a league 1 club wanting him. Maybe a squad player for a promoted side. 15 league starts for Barrow isn't going to attract Charlton I would have thought. He did score a few, so maybe.

A look at his playing history tells you he is a very experienced conference player but has never really made it as a league footballer. 
 

You can have blind optimism believing he will be good, but looking at the facts, which are his playing history, this looks like an Aspin/Glover era signing. 
 

If we bought a striker who had never done anything in the football league, we’d be fuming, so why a midfielder with similar gets hailed as a good signing, no idea! 

Do you  ever say anything positive at all to do with Vale? I dont think it's blind optimism its more to do with not one bad comment from Stockport fans and that's rare in itself

With the possible exception of Burton signing Elliott Watt (who is unproven at L1 level) neither them nor Shrews are doing anything other than convince me they are relegation fodder next season. They’re very lucky teams like us and Carlisle were so inept really.
