Smith has hundreds of games at this level and was virtually ever present in a promotion 2 years ago. We can 100% rely on him.

It’s L2 WV. He’s going to come up against forwards who are a bit more static and want to back into him and battle.

I would back Smith every single game like that. 7/10 performances every week.

We need a vocal head on a stick organiser alongside him.

As i posted before i think Smith is your typical rough them up type of League 2 defender,the type you need but he does need a decent defensive partner alongside him.

So i agree he will play plenty of games this coming season

I have heard that Moore doesn't really rate Smith but it might be a case of better the devil you know.

Smith in L2 is just about ok if:

1. We don't play out from the back; and
2. He's not the captain.

However, if we did go up next season, I don't want him anywhere near L1 again

He usually does appear in shirt launch .

Only time will tell if there's a reason behind it ,maybe he was on holiday .

Personally i feel Vale need a real transformation at back there's not enough pace in any of the players or what I'd call die for the club defensive work going on plus for me not enough good reading of the game for Vale continue with what they have at present. .

I think the jury is out on whether or not we need a new LB, depending how the Declan Wynne pre-season / early season trial goes.

The logic of that trial is (imho) that the club is only likely to finalise a LB - Deklan Wynne or A.N. Other - towards the back end of the transfer window in August.

I suppose it depends who he shares his thoughts with....he's likely to discuss his thoughts about players with other staff who then might share that with others. These things happen in a workplace.

I'm sure he is. He's the only defender Moore played in every game, which says he rates him higher than Lowe, who he only selected when out of options and the others. Smith did OK first season in League 1. He should never have been made Captain.

Surely the reason he didn't appear in the kit launch was because they picked another player and that choice was to go with Baylee Dipepa presumably as he's the young, up and coming star at the club.

Likewise.  Given that down the years many of our managers were defenders when they played, I'm baffled as to why we have been so poor defensively. I'm hoping Moore can install some steel, tactical awareness and pace into our defence next season.  But we need some strikers too - I think part of the defence problem last season was our inability to hold the ball up in the opposition half, and since the midfield seemed unable to tackle, our defence was often over run and always overworked.  Best form of defence is attack etc. Would love to see a couple of young pacey strikers signed, just to shift the balance of how we play.
