So as i said i am happy with the first 2 signings to come in,it's already starting to look better than the last few windows.

I would like a striker next(I know they are the hardest to tie down though),if rumours are true about us bidding for Paton then I would be happy with that one as well, for me any striker scoring 50 goals in 2 seasons will certainly be better than what we have had

Smith is a good league 2 centre half and has proved that over the years. For me this is exactly what he is, a good league 2 centre half. If we were to get promoted I'd be looking elsewhere.

Edit: I misread the post

We have far wider issues than Nathan Smith.

He's a limited footballer out of his comfort zone with the ball.

As an out and out defender he's more than adequate. Keep to his strengths instead of the faffing around. As a head it and clear it and get stuck in defender he's great at League 2 level.

A left back, 2 strikers and another CH are needed. Obviously/hopefully more will leave which gives Moore better wriggle room.

Apart from Clark we don’t have an out and out right back either. I think we need someone else there too. Don’t want to go into the season relying on people like Sang or Lowe to cover there.

I can't see us offloading both and I'd assume that will sadly be the case.

Clark played full season at Accrington but had mare with injury with us didn't he.

Totally agree I think people need to recall what we had at wing back and full back last season. Absolutely nothing and the pressure Nathan and whoever played at the back were always under pressure. Nathan didn't have a good season I agree but was the best of the defence. He rarely gets injured and always puts in a shift. He'll be fine this season I'm sure.

I’d ask the Smith detractors to explain how a guy who has won 2 player of the year awards has managed to do that whilst being too short, too slow and unable to pass, who is approaching 500 games having been consistently selected by numerous managers over the last decade?  Anyone?

Because he was great in league 2 but seriously lacking in league 1, especially last season.

That’s ultimately the story of the squad mind you, not especially Smith.

For the future that is the biggest problem, how can we build a solid league 1 team if even our best defender over the past few years has looked unconvincing in that league?

Biggest worry is goalscorers. I would say we never had a single striker who looked league 1 standard across the two seasons apart from maybe a 6 week spell for James Wilson at the start of our league 1 era.

Sadly I think you may be right and we have to prioritise other areas of the pitch.

You’ve said it, the squad as a whole was poor and massively lacking in goalscorers, add a couple of 10 goal strikers and we’d likely have stayed up comfortably.  Ultimately, I just think the confidence of the players collapsed and they performed much worse than their ability individually and collectively once we got past Christmas.

The biggest problem Smith had was being expected to do something he wasn’t proficient at in the system we played.  He can pass a ball but isn’t going to be pinging 40 yarders all game and shouldn’t be carrying the ball out from the back.  Garrity isn’t the best passer or dribbler but this gets overlooked.

Anyway, hopefully Moore will get players playing to their strengths.

You be careful you be upsetting them .

The Smith club .

Crikey we should be in prem by now he is that good .

Be talking about him forever more .

Let's hope if he remains a PVFC player he is not one of the better ones ,as that  means a lowly finish, maybe bottom 6  we need 10 superb players around him then he will get by with his  head everything attribute ,maybe if he reads the game better he would be in right position stop goals going in by getting rid of the  ball ain't that the job of central defender .

Oh no that will be the person who let the player cross it in not the golden one .

I actually enjoyed Lowe throwing himself at ball stopping it going in our net at times last season .

Come on ain't folk seen enough by now.

Move him on Moore.

I might have this wrong but are you saying you prefer Lowe to Smith?

Either way,I wont say all the time as thats a bit unfair(as true as it might be ) and i do like your passion for the club but you can be a bit silly at times me owd fruit

To be fair to Smithy he was messed around terribly last season. Left, right, or centre of a 3 with different lads alongside him and same on the odd occasion he was in a back four.

Giving him the armband was a mistake but with a regular position and regular partner or regular players alongside him and allowed to concentrate on his own game he's more than good enough for L2.

If he's surplus to requirements there will be top end league 2 and lower L1 sides queuing up for a rugged CB that's never injured.
