In both his loans he started in central midfield, got dropped and then got back into the team at wingback. He does whip in a good cross. It's possible he could do well in midfield in league 2, where players are a little slower but I personally don't have much hope. 20 years ago I think he would have been a decent central midfield player in the lower leagues.

Sang was the only one last season who could put in a decent early cross, regularly, for our non-existent strike force to shy away from !

Smith wasn’t a scapegoat last season. He was down right awful, unless games like Lincoln at home are acceptable. He will be fine at this level as we know from previous years but he was really poor last season. I also felt embarrassed with fans in Lorne street clapping the lads off after games like Exeter at home.

The reason that Dipepa did the kit launch and not Smith was purely marketing. Who is likely to present the best image to encourage buyers on a new shirt: a stalwart with 400-odd game under his belt and part of the furniture, or, a young lad making waves as a young England international who all the papers are talking about and linking with top Premier League and Bundesliga clubs - no brainer !! Come on Vale fans stop making chuffing stories up and trying to stir the 5hit !!
