I meant, we have been ranked highest in the rankings for years as in an England team compared to previous ones.

Roy is the guy who failed to get the team out of the groups stage at the 2014 World Cup despite having the likes of Gerard, Lampard and Rooney at his disposal. He had Harry Kane taking corners in Euro 2016 and lost to Italy on pens in the quarters. How about Graham Taylor, who, when were desperate for a goal against Sweden in the 1992 Euros, took Gary Lineker off - we failed to get out of the groups stage having managed no wins and one goal in three games. The least said about Steve McLaren the better.

if you think Southgate is worse than any Of those three then I accept your right to hold that opinion and I trust you will accept mine to doubt your sanity.

Graham Taylor was a far better manager than Southgate. Admittedly he was naff for England made worse by the fact the press crucified him.

McLaren has got me pondering I'll grant you. He's down there with Capello and Southgate.

If you genuinely think Hodgson was a superior England manager you can’t have watched the 2014 World Cup or the 2016 Euros. And if you have no memory of Taylor as England manager you are a very fortunate young man.
