Views on Rob Taylor?

Taylor rarely if ever takes a game by scruff of the neck and dominates it. Capable of moments of inspiration which can change a game - but also capable of anonymity too often. My thoughts is its concentration, or not reading how a game is going, though it may be fitness. Dodds still does the same thing at times - after a great start this season when I thought he had found the consistency to go with his undoubted talent.

What has happened to this guy? When he first came to the club he was raw but seemed to have bucket loads of potential. He had pace, could beat a man (although he's never been skillful) and also scored a decent amount of goals for a wide man, many of them being excellent strikes from outside the box. I remember him terrifying Sheffield United in their own backyard in a Cup game a couple of years ago. He's been a shadow of this player over the last couple of seasons and although he's arguably only in the side because of injuries, I always see him as our weak link wherever he plays. What bothers me most is that he still doesn't look fit enough to be a professional player, and a lot of the time looks like he can't even be arsed.

I'm not trying to make him a scapegoat for our poor form of late, not at all, as there's two or three others who aren't doing as well as they were at this moment in time. But in my opinion he offers very little and can consider himself somewhat fortunate to still be at the club.

They're pretty much very similar views to what I have myself Beechy.

He had a decent spell for a while (2nd half of 09/10 season I recall him causing havoc when we won 5-0 away at Chesterfield springs to mind), but he's just never been consistent in the long term.

With him joining the game later on compared with many other Professional Footballers; he's never really had the Footballing 'brain' or fitness to make the impact many thought he would do. I know he was at Nuneaton Borough for a while whilst studying for a University degree?

For sure he has pace; and he did chip in with a fair few goals a couple of seasons ago; but he's just seemed to stalled and not pushed on to the next level. As I mentioned before, maybe that's something to do with having to play 'catch-up' from the offset?

Fitness is key at this level and something that Micky Adams has always drilled into the lads. If it wasn't for us being in Administration and not being allowed to sign any more new players since the Summer it's debateable whether or not R.Taylor would still be at the club imo.

Rob Taylor really has it all to be a great winger apart from two things....... he hasn't got a football brain or the winner's instinct and without them he's got nowt?.

I'm sorry to say it but the one thing Dean Glover got right was his belief that Rob wasn't a footballer and I always thought he was correct on that point.

OK we saw the odd flash down the wing but all to often he was found wanting.

Taters is more comfortable on the treatment table than a football pitch.

I just wished that my lad had been gifted with his pace boy he would have been a world beater!!

I don't know if he feels out of position but i have studied him on a few occasions and he blows hot and cold.....More cold than hot. He is still capable of making good runs......But he seems to lose concentration and ends up in 'no man's land'. Forest Green he was abysmal and last Saturday he at times was wandering about with his head up his ****.......He has to have a good look at his self because in the New Year with hopefully a few new additions he will be an outcast as far as the 1st team is concerned.........Get your finger out Rob, sharpish.

Seems Dean Glover was right about him. ... no no no

I don't think it is any coincidence that since he has been playing left back we've been leaking goals - not blaming him solely but he is the weak link in the back four.

He needs to play as a forward and keep him away from the defensive line. However can he replace Vincent? Hmmm - I know who I prefer.

It is difficult for Rob though as he started his career late and has been very bitty.

From the York game I thought maybe that because Yates was playing left back - and although he had a decent game you could tell he was very uncomfortable on his left foot - Adams told Taylor to sit back a bit and help out. The thing is because of this he never knew when to make the runs up the pitch. He really should have been more or less in line with Pope so we could hit balls over the top for him to run on to
