Charlie Nicholas was very impressed by him on Soccer Saturday. I agree with SV, his best performance for the Vale, though he is improving rapidly with every game.

I'm still to be convinced. The lad obviously has potential but if he ends up as a regular League player or another James Lawrie, I don't know yet.

 

He has far more potential than James Lawrie, as he has pace, height and strength. For most sides in this division he would be an automatic starter so should have a good career.

I think he took his chance to start ok on sat, that said the sending off made a massive impact on the game and it turned into shooting practice.

I hear what your saying sage, the test will be at Gillingham, if we come out of that on top and ben has a great game then we can praise him . But i think we would have won comfortably even with 11 on 11 against argyle. We scored before the sending off and they really didn't look threatening. before then.

Ben has scored in 78% of the games he's started (by far the best % at the club) and is miles ahead of anyone (except Pope) when it comes to goals/minute in all competitions (Pope 110 min/goal, Williamson 131 min/goal, Dodds 286 min/goal).

 

The way to get out of this league is to have a side full of goals. He's certainly going to important in the run-in.

It was interesting to get Charlie Nicholas's opinion on Saturday who, on his first look at us, thought that Pope and Williamson looked a really dangerous pairing. From focussing on Pope, he went on to comment how well Williamson played.

 

I wouldn't be surprised though if Micky brought Dodds back on Saturday. When we last played Gillingham, they dominated midfield and Whelpdale looks in fantastic form for them. Dodds is much more effective at linking the play through midfield, especially when we have to do plenty of defending and I guess we will be doing our fair share at the Priestfield. It's good that we have such different players in the squad - makes us much less predictable and gives us more options for changing the play.

Never saw the Plymouth game but he did great for the two goals he was involved in.

 

As I've said he's not a bad impact sub but one good performance won't change my opinion that he shouldn't start

Do you know what the problem is?. When Beechy asked for our opinions he opened a whole 'can of worms'. People will never agree.

 

I honestly hope that Ben proves me wrong I really do, I've got nothing against the lad but we all have our opinion and we will never all agree but it's wrong when folk start slagging others off when they disagree with them.

 

I like Super Louis Dodds but most don't rate a guy who I consider is actually one of our very best players.... It's all about opinion!

Agree with that wholeheartedly. Williamson has something, there's no doubt in my mind. He's very quick, has a decent strike on him and can use both feet. Physically he's good too, you can tell he's an athlete in comparison to Louis Dodds.

 

He has more of a goal threat at the moment than Dodds as proven by their respective goals to minutes ratios. Williamson is deserving of a place in the starting 11 and I expect him to score a few more.

 

Despite the above I do rate Dodds but he doesn't look like scoring at the moment and will benefit from a spell out of the team to freshen up in my opinion.

What nonsense Dodds does so much more than run about like a headless chicken, he has the best pass ratio at the Vale, works harder than most of the team and is the best finisher at the club. Williamson is a completely different type of player but for me Dodds every time!
