A serious case review by Coventry Safeguarding Children Board published today found that police received 26 reports of domestic violence at Daniel Pelka's family home in the city whilst teachers failed to spot signs that he was being beaten and starved.

Social workers proved too willing to believe his manipulative and aggressive parents' claims that his injuries were the results of accidents and a paediatrician did not link Daniel's dramatic weight loss with neglect.

Can't believe that nobody is held accountable.

I think part of it is social wokrers etc being scared to take a child into care mistakenly and the consequencs for them and the organisations that they work for

Plus a lack of joined up thinking/information sharing operationally

I am most disappointed with the school; they saw him regulalry, would have seen his behaviour regularly, seen changes in him over time..unlike others who would only have seen a snapshot of his situation or behaviour and would be dealing with lots of other cases..the school would surely NOT have dozens of children in such situations? Did they do all that they could, even within a flawed system?

I feel that ultimately the cause is the system and the culture within the system and that whilst systemic issues wil be addressed, cultural issues wil remain unresolved and it's only a matter of time before this happens again

It beggars belief that despite Daniel's noticeable injuries, nobody at the school thought to ever ask him if he had problems, what do teachers do these days?

A she got the payout cos it was handled badly by Ed Balls whio was too interested in playing politics and beinmg seen to look dedcisive..idiot

But she's got some gall in accepting the payment even if legally she is entitled to it

I know it's only in the Daily Rag but it is reported that she demanded £1.5m,does she have no shame?

Errr not wishing to disparage the Daily Lying Tory Mail. She has probably aske for maximum compensation which was £71,000 at the time of her claim(she was on£135k a year) She has probably also claimed for loss of earnings and pension. According to the BBC its a lot less than the £600k being banded about. If Ed Balls had kept his nose out and let the council go through the proper disciplinary procedure and dismiss her that way she would have not been able to pursue a claim. It serves Ed Balls and the council right. Two wrongs don't make a right. If they had followed the law instead of acting above it there wouldn't have been a problem. Ed Balls and the CEO of the council should be sacked for the monumental **** up. MPs are there to follow the law not make it up on the hoof as are CEO's

Tut tut..Daily Star and the Mirror mention similar figure too..looks like the redoubtable Daily Mail has it right again ;)

There is no evidence cos of lack of due process being followed that she was incompetent nor evil/wicked..blame Ed Balls for this payout as he was too interested in trying to look good to the electorate

Would be good to hear off the record/anonymously explanstions from the teachers as to why they didn't talk to him etc..I say anonymously so that they will be honest and we can all learn from this

At last some action, the headmaster has been suspended.
